How do we purify an organic Liquid? |
Transfer organic liquid to a separating funnelAdd water (to remove water soluble impurities) shake and allow layers to separateOpen tap and discard aqueous layer Transfer organic liquid to a separating funnelAdd water (to remove water soluble impurities) shake and allow layers to separateOpen tap and discard aqueous layer Transfer organic liquid to clean, dry flaskAdd spatula of anhydrous MgSO4 as drying agentRedisitil, collecting distillate at boiling point of organic liquid Transfer organic liquid to a separating funnelAdd water (to remove water soluble impurities) shake and allow layers to separateOpen tap and discard aqueous layer Transfer organic liquid to clean, dry flaskAdd spatula of anhydrous MgSO4 as drying agentRedisitil, collecting distillate at boiling point of organic liquid Transfer organic liquid to a separating funnelAdd water (to remove water soluble impurities) shake and allow layers to separateOpen tap and discard aqueous layer Transfer organic liquid to clean, dry flaskAdd spatula of anhydrous MgSO4 as drying agentRedisitil, collecting distillate at boiling point of organic liquid Transfer organic liquid to a separating funnelAdd water (to remove water soluble impurities) shake and allow layers to separateOpen tap and discard aqueous layer Transfer organic liquid to clean, dry flaskAdd spatula of anhydrous MgSO4 as drying agentRedisitil, collecting distillate at boiling point of organic liquid Transfer organic liquid to clean, dry flask Add spatula of anhydrous MgSO4 as drying agent Redisitil, collecting distillate at boiling point of organic liquid |

How do we calculate the percentage yield? |
(Actual moles of cyclohexene / theoretical mokes of cyclohexene) × 100 |
|
How do we identify if there's a carbon double bond? |
Bromine water test Add few drops of bromine water which is an orange liquid to your product Shake If there is a colour change from orange to colourless then a carbon double bond is present |
|
Why can't we describe the colour change as going from orange to clear? |
Clear just means we can see through the liquid but colourless means there's no colour |
