Nonvascular Plant
Low-growing plants that lack vascular tissue. They can only pass materials from one cell to the next. Materials do not travel very far or very quickly. They do not grow very wide or tall and they are very small. Examples are peat moss, liverworts, or hornworts.
Rhizoids
Thin rootlike structures that anchor moss and absorb water and nutrients from the soil.
Bog
A wetland where sphagnum moss grows on top of acidic water.
Peat
The blackish-brown material consisting of compressed layers of dead sphagnum mosses that grow in bogs.
