Tropism
A plant's growth response toward or away from a stimulus.
Plant Stimuli
Three important stimuli that plants respond to are 1) touch 2) light and 3) gravity.

A chemical that affects how a plant grows and develops.
Auxin
The plant hormone that speeds up the rate of growth of plant cells.
Annuals
Flowering plants that complete a life cycle within one growing season. They do not come back the next year. Examples are marigolds, petunias, pansies, wheat, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
Biennials
Flowering plants that complete their life cycle in two years. The first year, they germinate and grow roots and very short stems and leaves. The second year they grow new stems and leaves and then produce flowers and seeds. Examples are parsley, celery, and foxglove.
Perennials
Flowering plants that complete their life cycle in more than two years. Examples are peonies (flowers), asparagus, bristlecone pines, oak trees, and honeysuckle.
