This knowledge nourished me with awareness, respect, and desire. With my new found love for environmental science and sustainability, I decided to enter an AP Environmental Science class. This only furthered my passion. Through my class I was able to complete a research project in which I collected soil and water samples, observed shadow patterns, and researched the plant and animal life in the school courtyard. My results indicated what new plant species and soil should be introduced to help the ecosystem. The research along with the field and lab work led the school to actually provide the resources necessary to better the courtyards ecosystem.
Now, a year later, I’ve started a proposal for a recycling system in my high school. Based off of my experience with follow through and research, I’m looking forward to a successful outcome. The beauty of my recycling project is that if I graduate before a system for recycling is put into place, I will still benefit from it’s effects. In fact, everyone will!
