“How are you so dedicated to this Vet Science stuff anyway?” one of my friends asked as we walk to lunch. In that moment I thought about what all Vet Science means to me. I flashback to the State CDE competition and my internship. I think about all the hours I put in during my internship and all the flashcards I made for the CDE team. To have the privilege to be able to help bring sick and injured animals back into better health, makes it all worthwhile. Simple objects, such as scrubs serve as a symbol for the most important experiences in my life. One of the biggest learning experience in my life was going to state in Vet Science CDE. Vet Science CDE, for those who have no clue is a FFA competition testing basic veterinary science and medicine.

This internship is the best way for me to learn, by actually getting my hands dirty and doing it myself. My internship is at vet clinic called All Cypress Veterinary Hospital in Marshall, Texas. I’m really fortunate to be able to learn from the skillful vet, Dr. Lee and her hard-working staff. They took me into open arms on my first day. Which was actually quite an eventful day. I was only there for about three hours and we already had to put a dog to sleep. Still to this day I can picture vividly the little cocker spaniel named Gracie, laying on the cold steel table. The dog’s skin was moving with fleas infested in her matted fur. For some odd reason we were in one of the exam rooms instead of the treatment area. The vet tech who was putting the dog down was trying so hard to fight off her tears of how mistreated the dog was. I remember it seemed it was taking so long. You could tell the Gracie was fighting it. She wanted to live no matter how bad she was suffering. After watching the vet and the techs work harmoniously to euthanise this one dog, I started to get this strange feeling I had never felt before. I felt like I was stuck on a broken roller coaster that just kept spinning around. Sweat started to bead off my forehead. I could
