It was at a small clinic that didn’t see many animals, but this is where I saw my first surgery, a routine neuter. What I remember most is the excitement I felt and when the doctor had finished he told me the surgery was so simple a monkey could do it. All I wanted was to be that monkey.
Not long after, I began volunteering at a small zoo. This allowed me to get close to exotics and to care for them. As I learned about these different animals I was able to share my knowledge with the public and the importance of animals and their conservation. The work was hard, but the bonds with the animals was worth going home covered in dirt and sweat. I loved educating the public and caring for animals and treating those that fell ill. Through the treatment of the family pet or the cow that may be soon on the dinner table I will be able to provide services to my community to ensure its health and safety.
