Personal Statement
Imagine pancakes changing your life. On Christmas morning my family makes what are called snowman pancakes. Snowman pancakes are three pancakes stacked as snowmen, with bacon for arms and m&ms for buttons, topped with powdered sugar and whipped cream. To go along with the pancakes, orange juice and scrambled eggs are also made on this special morning. Every Christmas morning I wake up, open the things in my stocking, then the whole family works together to prepare breakfast. While we are making breakfast, Christmas music is put on. Our family laughs and jokes and sings to the music. The aroma of sweet pancakes fills our house. My family and I all sit down at the dining table and give a prayer of thanks. Outside,

The Family of Brother Michael Williams The textbook says, “In their efforts to understand diverse family response to stressful events, family scholars have used the ABCX model developed by Reuben Hill.” (Lauer, 2012) In applying this model to Brother Michael Williams’ experience, I would assign his brother’s illness and the decision as to whether he should remain on life support or not as the “A” in the model. This is defined as “the stressor event and the hardships it produces.”…

In the story “Pancakes” by Joan Bauer, Jill is a dynastic character that overcomes perfectionism. First, Jill thinks that even though the pancake house is shorthanded she can run the restaurant with one other person. Jill shows this when she states: “ I can do anything if I worked hard enough” (200). This shows that Jill at the beginning of the story thought that she could do everything all by herself. She didn’t think she need anyone to help her.…

It’s a holiday we should remember as an experience, of love and closeness, not stress and anxiety. It should be a time to give thanks for all the blessings we have received throughout the year. I am sure Christmas means something different to different people; however, I think we can all agree that in the end our family is what matters. It goes as the saying says, “brought together by blood, but kept together by love.” With that said, I choose to instill in my family the true meaning of Christmas, and I apologize in advance if I offend you, but I wish you and yours a very “MERRY…

It illuminates the front window, sending a warm glow throughout the house. Christmas is a favored holiday by children, maybe because of the presents, or because of the magical aura that seems the envelop the whole season. Christmas is celebrated in honor of the birth of Jesus christ, son of god. A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist) is where Christians remember that Jesus died for us was resurrected. The 'Christ-Mass' service was the only one that was allowed to take place after sunset (and before sunrise the next day), so people had it at Midnight!…

Tamales Through Time This year’s craziness and smells of carne and my family gathering in my grandparents’ kitchen brings a big, bubbly smile to my face, like always, because I know this means the official start of Christmas, and Christmas means I get to be with my family and Santa is going to bring me presents! My mom says that she heard that I’m on Santa’s nice list for the 5th year in a row! I always look forward to tamale making because I get to be around all my cousins and aunts and uncles and watch them make yummy food for our Christmas Eve feast while I make gingerbread houses! And every year when I ask if I can help this time, grandma always explains while grinning that “you can’t help with the tamales until you’re tall enough to reach the counter because someone so tiny will get knocked into the masa and then we will have tamales that taste like Alejandria!…

t’s the season to pause and reflect on the things that we are thankful for - our family, friends and neighbors, good health and good fortune, and the meals before us. Many of us will gather around the table and give thanks for the things and the people that enrich and brighten our lives every day, especially when we might overlook them. But one of the most important things that so many of us are grateful for is something seldom mentioned at Thanksgiving dinner: water. It’s something so basic and so often taken for granted.…
