Character Analysis: A Charlie Brown Christmas

You’ve got to hand it to Lucy van Pelt. She called it as she saw it. “Look, Charlie, let’s face it,” she barked in “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” “We all know that Christmas is a big commercial racket. It’s run by a big eastern syndicate, you know.” Christmas, an important and happy holiday, now used mostly to gain large amounts of money. Retail businesses make it readily apparent that Christmas has become too commercialized when stores start putting out Christmas decorations in October. Retailers are more concerned with ensuring that people spend money and generate their revenue throughout the season. Instead, of promoting family time and being grateful for what we have, it 's about receiving and giving the best gifts money can buy.

It 's safe to say it is no longer valid whether they have chosen to be good or bad; children can easily persuade their parents into getting what they want, promising good behavior, good grades, and even keeping their rooms clean. The parents take the children to buy the gifts they want--gifting has evolved and has lost its magic. I remember getting dolls, coloring books, hair accessories, clothes, etc., but the whole idea was that it was a gift. It made you feel special that the person thought of you as they considered what to give. Children today, aim at high priced electronics, name brand clothes/shoes, and gift cards--anything that is trending. It 's no longer about the gift giving, but about what the value of the gift is. The excitement is no longer alive, as it was when the gift was actually a surprise. The majority of children know what they will be receiving, because they have asked for that item …show more content…
From fake, odd-colored trees, to inflated prices, and ridiculous sales. People are willing to spend inflated prices to get their partner, child and other relatives the “gift of their dreams.” In addition, people rather express the unwillingness to put aside family differences and making compromises to join together for this special day. In essence, choosing not to focus on what it truly means to share a “Merry Christmas,” with loved ones. Christmas should be about family, making memories, simple being with your loved ones. It’s a holiday we should remember as an experience, of love and closeness, not stress and anxiety. It should be a time to give thanks for all the blessings we have received throughout the year. I am sure Christmas means something different to different people; however, I think we can all agree that in the end our family is what matters. It goes as the saying says, “brought together by blood, but kept together by love.” With that said, I choose to instill in my family the true meaning of Christmas, and I apologize in advance if I offend you, but I wish you and yours a very “MERRY

The Battle for Christmas is a book, written by Stephen Nissenbaum, which discusses the evolution of the Christmas holiday and how it came to be so. Before the 1800s, Christmas was viewed as an occasion for riots and drunkenness. In his book, Nissenbaum presents how this culture transformed in the nineteenth century and how Christmas became a festival of consumerism and domesticity. Below is a review of factors that led to the bringing of the civilized Christmas holiday and the problems that were encountered in doing so. How poor people such as slaves, newsboys, and students celebrated the Christmas holiday.…

The time of Christmas and holidays should be a time of happiness but things like this should have the appropriate time and place. Melanie Springer Mock, in her article “Separation of Church and State: A war on Christmas and Other Misguided Notions,” recounts her celebrations of the birth of Jesus. Mock purpose is to urge those who are not Christian are and still left out since the separation of the church from the government. She adopts a sentimental tone in order to appeal to the similar feelings and experience of those who are religiously segregated from others. Mock uses irony to make her purpose clear.…

“A Christmas Story”, the play directed by Susan Ferley and performed at December 2nd, 2015, was a well-performed play in my opinion. The story is about a boy named Ralphie Parker wanting a BB gun: a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and "this thing which tells time" for his Christmas present. In the story, he does all he can to receive that gun but their parents reject his wish because they thought it was too dangerous for him. The writer, Jean Shepherd, wrote about a very boring outline of the story but made the story humorous and exciting for the audience. The performances in the “A Christmas Story” was very well done by the actors.…

Christmas. A time for families to come together and rediscover why you all hate each other. Sometimes you just wish Santa would show up and slaughter us all. I can't be the only one that thinks that, right? Santa's Slay, for the most part, was an alright flick, but it's the opening family dinner scene that really sets the bar high, with plenty of cheese to go all around.…

In response to the overall feelings of negativity and glumness in the country, the Lakeland Times presented an article in November of 2011 that encouraged an earlier celebrating of the Christmas spirit. In the article “Let the decorations begin, bring on the holiday” The Lakeland Times ineffectively introduces a call for the Christmas spirit by encouraging individuals to decorate for the holiday early. This appeal ineffectively uses several points creating an article full of generalizations rather than actual evidence including, the glumness brought by a struggling economy, too much focus on politics, the need for unity within the country, commercialization and how it is not affected early decorating, as well as how early decorating shows…

Christmas is a Christian celebration of the birth of Christ, though it also encompasses Greek, Roman and pagan traditions of giving gifts and feasting around the Winter Solstice. It is a time when families and friends come together to share food and exchange gifts (web). In How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the main characters, the Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge, are similar to each other in many ways such as their awful personality. The Grinch is a green hairy who is very greedy, stingy, and a little evil creature. He wants nothing to do with the Whos, hates Christmas, and wants the Who 's Christmas spirit to be gone.…

Someone is standing in line at a department store, waiting for their turn to pay for their purchases. It is mid-December and the weather is cold and snowy and people are bustling about trying to complete their Christmas shopping. The person who is at the cash register checking the customers out seems to be in the Christmas spirit telling the shoppers to have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as they finish paying and head toward the front doors to leave. This would usually bring a smile to the face of the person on the receiving end, but as of late, this once joyful sentiment is now offensive. Since when is it wrong to tell a person to have a Merry Christmas?…

Being considerate and helpful to others is what makes you have a humanity. “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is a story about a man named Ebenezer Scrooge who was tremendously greedy and was visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future to make him see what his selfishness had caused him. This story has multiples themes, such as social justice, the true meaning of humanity, etc. Greed overtakes the humanity of those who possess it because it pushes away everyone you love and takes away your ability to be kind and empathetic, and lose quality time with people who care about you.…

The setting, lights, costuming, and actors worked cohesively to project a beautiful and whimsical adaption of Charles Dickens story. However, in my opinion, the most enjoyable aspect of my Friday night was the life lesson I grasped from sitting in the third row, investing myself in the storyline and the themes engraved deep in the script. A Christmas Carol, yet fun and lighthearted, was also courageously satirical for today’s politics, teaching society a valuable lesson about the responsibility of each man; to help those less fortunate with the fortune you…
