Scouts Observation

I did my observation with the scouts at the SPCA of Lenoir county. It was a hot and humid morning but the place did not open until 12:00 and I got there a little early. While waiting I have realized the girls were coming in groups of mini vans, they seemed to be very excited. While fidgeting with my car’s steering wheel, I realized the girls and their chaperones were lining up and It was my time to get out of the humid car. I greeted the coordinators of the Girl Scouts troop and the people running the animal rescue place. We lined up to take pictures, so they could most likely post them all over social media. We were then separated into two groups; the ones that liked

The nature of Coleman’s scouts were reserved for the truly daring, but critical to obtaining intelligence that could aid the Confederacy in gaining an edge on the Union army. This seems all too familiar to the term of a spy, but the misconception between the two is often made, and can be easily corrected. Scouts during these times were easily identifiable, due to the requirement to be uniformed. To be a scout, you had to be known. A spy would be dressed in civilian clothing and would undertake whatever means necessary to infiltrate and gain all crucial information in the stealthiest ways possible.…

For decades to come people will ask of each other, where were you? I am sitting with Arnold Burns, the chairman of the boys and girls club of America, talking about the needs of youth. I have known this former deputy attorney general of the United States for twenty-five years, and because I am on the board of advisers. We happened to run into each other the way New Yorkers often meet, in an unlikely place. Jimmy Boyle is, without a doubt, the most beloved man within the New York fire department family.…

As a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, my moral compass has been greatly influenced by Chippewa culture and tradition. For centuries, Chippewa have practiced the teachings of the Seven Grandfathers: Nibwaakaawin, Zaagidwin, Minadendmowi, Aakdewin, Debwewin, Dbaadendizwin, and Gwekwaadziwin. Each Grandfather represents the different values of wisdom, love, respect, bravery, truth, humility, or honesty. Chippewa believe these seven attributes serve as a guideline for how we should treat each human on a daily basis.…

Middle Grades are probably the most difficult grades to get through for everyone. During this time of physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and moral development for these students learning about the history of Georgia is literally the last thing they think about, if they even really think about it at all. These students are some of the most difficult students to keep their attention focused on the subject matter at hand, unless of course we are discussing them, then and only then will the teacher get their full attention. During the observation assignment I noticed a few of the developmental theories that correlated with the five developmental stages of middle school students: Bronfenbrenner, Erikson, and Hall.…

Imagine your beautiful baby girl being born and then finding out she has a birth defect that will affect her quality of life forever. I was born with Bladder Exstrophy, a rare abnormality present at birth in which the bladder and associated structures are improperly formed and occurs in 1 out of 50,000 births. Throughout my childhood I’ve had 14 surgeries to make my life as “normal” as can be. To manage my situation it requires very different techniques just to empty my bladder and to prevent serious infections. Recognizing the need to help support me and others with this anomaly, my parents organized an annual support group camp out.…

For the past 6 years of my life, I have gone to a sleepaway camp in Burnet, TX called Camp Longhorn Inks Lake. There are many enjoyable traditions at Camp Longhorn. Some of the\ traditions are the mile swim, campfire lighter, early bird, fun day, frog girl day, and marine/marina mud. Although these traditions are great fun, but none of them can compare to the most memorable tradition at Camp Longhorn, Church Mountain. Church Mountain is my favorite tradition at Camp Longhorn and my life has been infinitely changed by the experiences I have had up there.…

Humor plays a role, because they are such young girls. The humor adds to the setting of being at a summer camp. The girls thought they heard a racial slur from the white girls’ troop. They said they were going to beat them up or put daddy long legs in their sleeping bags. The unhumorous ending is that the white girl troops are have special needs.…

Every week thousands of Boy Scouts across America vow to keep themselves “morally straight” as they recite the final line of the Boy Scout Oath: “[I promise] to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.” Unfortunately, many of the Boy Scouts of America’s critics claim Scouting has lost its moral standard. When the Boy Scout National Council decided to remove its ban on homosexual boys and adults, Christians began to ponder the ethics of supporting Scouting. While some Christians painfully decided to leave Scouting, others enthusiastically maintained their memberships. After carefully examining the facts, my family and I decided to stay in Scouting.…

While observing the playground , I took a look at the design concepts. I was happy to see that there were seperate areas for the toddlers ( ages two to five)and then the younger children ( ages five to twelve). This makes sure that the two ages are seperate and the children can enjoy their time on the playground without any issues. The structures were solid in foundation and there was no change that the children could climb. Since there is no chance that the children can climb there is a less chance of injury.…

Since September of 2015, I’ve been interning with the Quaker-based, non-violent, social justice group, the American Friends Service Committee. During this time, I’ve learned so much about myself, as well as Kansas City’s youth. I’ve helped organize a city-wide high school poster art project and a poetry workshop of the same — giving students a platform to speak out on social issues. This consisted of conducting interactive lecture style classes in Kansas City metro schools such as Paseo, Wyandotte, Washington, Cristo Rey, De La Salle, and various youth organizations. I’ve helped students from Muslim, Latino, African (Black), Caucasian (White), and other communities, use their voice through art.…

Thanks the Texas Exes alumni, I was able to go to Camp Texas for free this year. At first I thought that it was like any normal 3- day camping trip, which made me extremely excited since I enjoy camping very much. Once I got there, I realized that it was a different type of camp. I was nervous and scared because I’m not very good at socializing. The reason I’m writing this is because I learned so much about being open minded, accepting, and kind to other people and new experiences.…

For my animal performance scene I was a reindeer. The biggest strengths that I had for my scene was my movement, portrayal of eating, and display of the prey-like nature of a reindeer. During research I learned that a reindeer walks heavily but also spry. I properly conveyed this concept in my scene by leaping from leg to leg, making sure to lead with my knees when I was in the air and to place my weight on my leading foot when I landed. Since reindeer eat grass and shrubs that is often buried under snow, I used my legs to display digging through snow similar to how a reindeer does.…
