This age of development is about becoming and students in this stage need free time away from responsibilities to focus on exploring different roles and opportunities. The two boys I had been observing walked passed me while I was in the food court area, except now they had two girls walking "with" them. The girls were following behind the boys, but they were obviously together because they boys kept turning around to talk to the girls. One thing I noticed about many of the girls during my observation was that they almost always had their hand in front of their mouth. It almost felt like they did not want anyone to see their expression until they were sure they were giving the correct response. These girls have yet to achieve the their own identity and according to James Marcia are in a moratorium status of actively exploring what decisions and commitments to make about who they will become (Bohlin and Durwin, 50). In my upcoming classroom, I will offer a variety of moral issues for students to debate upon. This will help to build up each students confidence, interests and the desire to make a commitment towards their own personal future.
