Reflection On Muscle Reading

Chapter 4, Reading: How Muscle Reading Works pp.136-141 While the concepts and ideas that are presented in this article may be helpful to some, to me, it is rather late to completely adjust my techniques in reading. The process of muscle reading can generate decent results, but following every step will only become a burden. Instead, I prefer to do steps out of order, and void specific steps out if necessary. The part that resonated with me specifically is the highlighting technique. It states that one should read an entire chapter or section before going back to highlight. This is a logical strategy that has developed into one of my habits. I prefer highlighting and underlining key terms to remind myself of the material being presented. After …show more content…
Juggling between many stressing aspects such as work, academics, and social life, can be exhausting. Unfortunately, I have not read for “fun” in over six months due to other pressing matters. This article suggests that reading books for pleasure is strongly linked to success in school and in the workplace. That idea had piqued my interest. As a literature loving young adult, I am still in the process of seeking out new ways to organize recreational and work time. Therefore, the first goal that I intend to accomplish is making time to read. After first semester final exams are completed, I plan on reading a novel that I’ll enjoy. This goal is important to me because reading is something I gave up on in exchange for pursuing a career that is better suited for the job market. Hopefully, the reward will be a stress reliever and rekindling of a lost interest in “reading for fun.” The second goal that I intend to accomplish is to keep a journal of my daily activities. I plan on using as few words as possible in a word document to record what I do on a day-to-day basis. If I remember to complete it every day, I plan on continuing this until the New Year begins. This goal is important because it will help me organize aspects of my daily life into a short list, easily accessible list. Also, this goal is realistic in the sense that I can easily accomplish it, depending on whether or not I choose to do so. If accomplished, this goal will work towards my habits of recording my daily actions that can help me improve on the next

Is it important to understand the structure of our muscles? And if so how could this improve the results of our muscle exercise routine? One wise thing to do when deciding the muscles exercise technique we are going to adopt is to find out the type of structure a muscle is made of, muscles as we know are formed by either a slow-contract structure or a fast-contract structure, for example a muscle made of high level of slow-contracts structure reacts more favorably to high repetitions, so high level of slow-contracts structured muscles are more adequately trained in the 15 or over repetitions to allow the muscle to be enough time under pressure. Fast-contracts structured muscles are more adequately trained in the 6 to 12 repetitions.…

Overall my experience with reading has been forced, and limited and has lost its original glamour. For me what reading novels brings to other people, I can obtain through other means that are more appealing for my way of thinking. While I don’t enjoy the act of reading a 600 page mandatory novel, I do enjoy the conversations that it can cause. Such as the debating, and sometimes the arguments, that come from the material within the carefully thought out cover pages can be intriguing and rewarding. However, to say that books have influenced my thoughts about the world, or have made…

This can clearly be disproven; a survey by Scholastic showed that “only 51% of children said they love or like reading books for fun… 12% said they did not like it at all” (Flood). In other words, only about half of the children throughly enjoy reading while almost a quarter do not like at all. Paul also goes into further detail on the time commitment that the activity takes up to begin with; she boldly states, “You can finish watching a move in two hours and forget about it; not so a novel. Sticking it out for 300 pages means immersing yourself in another person’s world and discovering how it feels.” It is evident from these statements that reading a book does lengths of time out of one’s day that could be spent doing several other activities.…

Project essay 2 Mortimer Adler's work of "How to Read a Book" brings up many interesting viewpoints and idea's on effective reading strategies. The differences between sitting down as a kindergartner reading a Dr. Seuss, and a collegiate scholar finding evidence on a claim he must either prove or disprove is an entirely different game to say the least. The differences, according to Adler, are broken into four unique reading levels, elementary, inspectional, analytical, and syntopical. Each of these has distinct features that are helpful at many different stages of reading.…

Art and literature are the foundation of life. Long before Netflix and social media existed, people used books to entertain themselves. Mason Cooley said “reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are”. Even in 21st century, the age of technology, people use books as a source of entertainment and writing as a form of self-expression. Books and reading in general has many benefits like mental stimulation, gaining knowledge and much more.…

It’s interesting, really, to see some of my old papers from middle and high school. I look back and laugh at the time, maybe around the third grade, when my classmates and I would groan and complain about having to write an ENTIRE PARAGRAPH. Now, after years of writing significantly longer academic papers that stretch far beyond a simple paragraph, my style and the depth of my topics have evolved based on what I’ve read. The most important pastime for anyone who wishes to write, unsurprisingly, is to read a wide variety of material, starting at a young age. Studies have shown that children who read more than their peers exhibit a larger vocabulary as well as more complex writing styles.…

Goals are something that I have always thought about in my life. Whether it be graduating high school, passing a test, or going to college. Back then I had a lot of simple goals that were easy to accomplish, but now it’s time to start making those goals much bigger. As for my first goal I would like to graduate college with no complications. To do this I will have to always stay on task, turn work in when it is due, and taking care of things before it’s too late.…

Much like James Stewart, my love of reading preceded my interest in writing. I would visit the library often growing up, checking out books in the mornings at the elementary school before the first bell rang or taking part in the public library’s reading program during the summer. When I had my tonsils removed in the fourth grade, my school librarian (who was all too familiar with me at this point) delivered me a stack of books at home, knowing I would get restless without reading material while I was recovering. Unlike Stewart, my love of writing followed soon after as a natural progression. My mother was a teacher at my elementary school, so I would often stay with her after the class ended, waiting for her to finish grading papers or write…

We - as civilization - are shaped by our interactions with people. Some people have an engaged personality; generally bold or active. Other people tend to have a shy or introverted personality, preferring to be engaged in a small group of friends and stray from large groups. I am both partially introverted and extroverted, but prefer the latter. Reading is such a major part of my life; from the time I could comprehend the written word, I had always turned towards book.…

Just like learning to walk or ride a bike, learning to read is one of life’s milestones. However, unlike walking and biking, reading skills are not suddenly obtained and then static throughout life. After learning to read initially, an individual’s reading skills, interests, and purposes further develop and change throughout their life. Furthermore, the means by which an individual improves their reading capabilities change over time as well. In the same way, I initially improved my reading ability and changed my interests through the help of my parents, then later my teachers, and finally, in spite of a dark period of little improvement, through my own effort.…
