The Shot
Several years have passed, and I moved to a small village due to certain circumstances. But I missed my past rowdy life when I hadn’t a care in the world. Now I spend the Winter and Spring evenings by myself. From time to time I would go out to check how the work was progressing on my land. But the rest of the time went by slowly. I read all the books that I had. And stories about women made me feel miserable. I wanted to drink but was scared of becoming an alcoholic like some of my neighbors.
About two miles away from my house there was the estate of the countess, but now nobody lived there except the overseer. The countess had visited her manor only once since her honeymoon. But because her husband had been shot there she hadn’t come back since. However, rumor had it that she was coming to visit in the summer. This was big news for the people of the village. They talked about it for months before and would probably talk about it for years after. I admit that the news of a young beautiful neighbor excited me and I couldn’t wait for her arrival.
The first Sunday after she had arrived I went to her estate to introduce myself as her closest neighbor and offer my help. As I arrived to the gates her footman led me to the study room and left to announce my arrival. The

He told my husband that he wanted to take his shot now, and he killed him!” She began to cry and I embraced her. She started talking about what happened after her husband had died and how depressed she was, and that the only reason she came back was to face what had happened once again. I looked at the clock and it was getting late. So I said goodbye and left. We started seeing each other every day, and spent our evenings together. Soon we had fallen in love. After some months she wanted me to return to the city with her, so I did. We got married there and have lived happily ever

We sat on the hot metal of the bleachers outside of the baseball field. The rainy days of Spring were replaced with the sweltering heat of the Summer, and hearing the clink of a baseball hit a bat in the Summer had become a tradition for almost five years. My older brother Dakota had spent those years being bombarded by sweat, mud, and the encouragement of his family, friends, and coaches when the team needed to hit a ball or when he wanted to show off how much better he had gotten since the last season. We were all ready for the season to be over so that we could plan our almost yearly trip to Virginia to visit our Aunt, Uncle, and our almost overwhelming blue-eyed cousins, Liam and Carlile. When the baseball season had come to a happy--or sad--ending, we would plan the trip and be piling into the car within the next week or two, to go on the getaway…

Today is the day me and my best friend Katie found out about “The Toxic Shot” and that it would be used to kill every woman in the United States. At first we looked at each other and thought this was some type of sick joke but then we kept paying attention to the TV and found out how and why the government would do such a thing. Suddenly the president's face showed up on the screen and he started talking, “Hello ladies and gentleman of the US I have an announcement to make, I think that women are unnecessary and needy, This is why I have decided to get rid of them once and for all, if…

The Shot I Didn’t Take “You can’t give up before even trying,” said my dad very often. My dad, Matt Matuska, is a firm believer on not giving up. My decision on not going out for basketball was somewhat hard on him because he really enjoyed watching me play. He also didn’t want to see me give up on something that I was “good at”. I didn’t think that I was good at basketball, and to be completely honest, I didn’t enjoy playing the game either.…
