I am a member of the varsity show choir group called Express at my school. Being apart of this group has allowed me to experience an abundance of new things in different places. After we had our fun in the city it was time to remember the real reason we came. As performance day rolled around, I was extremely anxious and excited for the moment my group would take the stage. The day started with the hair and makeup process in the morning and led to the warm up session right before our performance. I could feel the nerves in the air as we impatiently waited to set the stage. The time finally came; the curtain was pulled, the crowd erupted in cheering, and our director gave us the cue. There is a certain time in Express’s show where the mood is softened and we pour out our hearts in the music. In this moment I remembered all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into this show I was performing and a wave of accomplishment washed over me. As the lights shone on my face, all I could do was sing and live in that one perfect moment.
In that single moment, a multitude of emotions washed over me. Thankfulness, fulfillment, and gratitude came into my mind. While standing in that spotlight, I realized I no longer had to be afraid of being different because if I could be myself on stage and enjoy every moment of it, then why couldn’t I do that in my everyday life? I believe in the spotlight because it made me realize being unique is the best way a person can go about
