This I Believe What makes a person believe in something? A powerful moment, tragic loss, or sign from above are all things that can cause people to have a deeper understanding of their life. In particular, an influencing moment caused me to realize some things about an area of my life that were not clear before. Due to this moment, I now strongly believe in the power of spotlight.
I am a member of the varsity show choir group called Express at my school. Being apart of this group has allowed me to experience an abundance of new things in different places. One particular experience that impacted me took place on a show choir trip to New York. This competition held a significant amount of importance because the event was a long ways

After we had our fun in the city it was time to remember the real reason we came. As performance day rolled around, I was extremely anxious and excited for the moment my group would take the stage. The day started with the hair and makeup process in the morning and led to the warm up session right before our performance. I could feel the nerves in the air as we impatiently waited to set the stage. The time finally came; the curtain was pulled, the crowd erupted in cheering, and our director gave us the cue. There is a certain time in Express’s show where the mood is softened and we pour out our hearts in the music. In this moment I remembered all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into this show I was performing and a wave of accomplishment washed over me. As the lights shone on my face, all I could do was sing and live in that one perfect moment.
In that single moment, a multitude of emotions washed over me. Thankfulness, fulfillment, and gratitude came into my mind. While standing in that spotlight, I realized I no longer had to be afraid of being different because if I could be myself on stage and enjoy every moment of it, then why couldn’t I do that in my everyday life? I believe in the spotlight because it made me realize being unique is the best way a person can go about

My ears ring as the old school bus screeches to a halt. We hop off, and a dry, winter gust smacks my face. Instantly, the frigid wind sends my nose running. Walking towards the back door of the school, I grasp the cold metal handle, open it, and slam a piece of wood underneath to keep it ajar. After we become accustom to the cold shock, Mrs. Cimenski, our director, orders us to haul the heavy wooden tables and a set of four lockers toward our designated backstage area.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I am also fortunate to go to a small college where I have a lot of one-on-one guidance from my professors. I declared a major in philosophy my during first semester and my sophomore year I was told that my college was no longer going to offer a major in philosophy after our only philosophy professor left. My experience presenting choreography and performing in the 2017 Xperimental Dance Concert was challenging, yet stimulating. I believe choreographing for any type of venue is an intimate and vulnerable task, and this venue enabled the audience to witness every aspect of the pieces in the concert from many diverse angles; which caused many choreographers, including me, to feel a little anxious about presenting our works. Although I felt apprehensive about the intimate space, I recognized that this concert was unlike any I had performed in previously because the space was not in a normal proscenium set up, and I believe I let that idea influence my experience. For example, I was able to interpret my piece in a unique way because I thought about…
