Advertisements are deceiving; cigarette companies use them to target consumers of different social statuses, race, and ages. The majority of the ads portray an image that makes the consumer believe that if they use their product they will look or be as happy as the person shown in the ad. Yet many ads do not show the side effect that their product can have or the effect it can cause on the consumers health. For example in my ad, it tries to convince young adults to buy Newport cigarettes. The ad targets young adults of all races, making them believe that if they smoke Newport cigarettes they will look as healthy, have a good time, and be cool around their friends and peers when in reality it is not true, therefore this ad is ineffective.…
I fully agree with Kilbourne that advertisements influence us significantly. I agree with Kilbourne's statement, "Many teens fantasize that objects will somehow transform their…
I feel that the Federal Trade Commision should be in the business of regulating unfair and deceptive marking to children. Overall, there should be law that protects children from being targeted with such marketing at such young age. I also believe that marketing to children should be banned or at lease create a way for business to have less influence in children by their products whether i'ts deceptive or not.…
The advertisement was effective in persuading its audience to quit smoking. The emotional plot draws the viewers in, even if they are not the parent of a child. They get their point across effectively and leave the viewer contemplating the effects of…
We need to tell younger generations to be more aware of these subtle messages in the advertisement that we see everywhere. Since the effect can be subconscious, being aware and recognizing the danger is important in order to not experience the negative side effects. Educating yourself and others on the effects advertisements have had on people is very important to realizing the dangers. I also feel like more people need to take a stance to stop this emphasis on things like the “perfect body,” over sexualizing women or over masculinity. There needs to be more positive messages, that portray real people who are the majority of the population.…
In addition, The “Facts About Marketing to Children” survey says that half of the children they surveyed said that buying a certain product makes them feel better about themselves. This feeling they get will most likely persuade them to make more purchases. Finally, advertisers aim their ads at youth because youth has great spending…
“In the US, the average child watches an estimated 16,000 television commercials a year. And, while US children are among the world’s most avid consumers of advertising, the effect of television on children is a concern for parents across the globe” (Watson, 2017). Advertising is hard to avoid it is everywhere for a child to be exposed to. Advertising in schools and to children in general raises ethical issues. How far will companies go to exploit children or even consider advertising their brand at a place where children are sent to get educated?…
Targetting children in advertising is a problem with many potential solutions. Some say it should be banned altogether, others suggest that more restrictions should be implemented, and some believe that America's advertisers have a right to market their products however they see fit. It is my belief that aspects from each argument have merit, and that it should be the responsibility of America's parents and schools to teach children about the effects of marketing, both positive and negative. Advertisement is not inherently malicious.…
American children in the twenty-first century have been made into sheep by the veritable big bad wolf known as big business. Truly children are our most precious resource, without them we have no future; so why are we not protecting them? Any parent knows that children require a guiding hand and reassurance, with no experience or true knowledge of the world it's easy for them to be swept up in flashy commercials and billboards. Although banning child targeting advertising would be a bit drastic, and would surely have adverse effects on our economy, stricter regulations must be put in place for the sake of our kids. Some day the world and its many issues will be left to our children, and it's our job to prepare them for it, not exploit them.…
Children between the ages of eight to eighteen have the highest rate of exposure to ads, but it is those in their lives that provided them with these unhealthy habits that feed the fire and cause the most harm.…
As a high school teacher who spends a lot of time with teenagers I see an inherent problem with some advertising and its affect on body perception and its contribution to our materialistic culture. Are these issues created from advertising alone? No, there are other factors. However, the media (including advertising) can have a bigger affect on people than I think most people realize. On the other the hand I am a marketing professional that believes marketing helps consumers fulfill needs in order to live the lifestyle they makes them happy and fulfilled.…
Okay from the Self-regulation and Education-Not Legislation i agree with that passage. the advertisments on children yes there are some ones out their that persaude children to buy unhealthy things. But wanting to ban a advertisment is not the answer to solve all your problems. Kids all over the world see these advertisments and yes they want what they see, the parents no what they should get and what not to get for their childern when they come into their room saying " I want what i saw on t.v" so from my critical thinking its based on the parents actions it they get their children the product or not.…
Our students are the captive audience. As a matter of fact, most of the ad's our children mostly see ad's about food and beverages that can make them have a unhealthy diet. Like most schools are sponsored by Pepsi and maybe even some fast food restaurant in their city. All these types of food and beverages ad's can be on scoreboards, team posters, and sometimes maybe even the school sign.…

Viewers of the advertisement would respond, “Hey, if this is going to clean up her child’s mess, it will clean up my child’s too.” Sparking an emotional connection is a major…
