There are five types of power which are as follows. Legitimate power is provided through the organizational hierarchy. Reward power is having the power to withhold and give rewards. Coercive power is forcing compliance through psychological, emotional, or physical threat. Referent power relates to identification, imitation, loyalty, or charisma. Lastly, there is Expert Power that derives from expertise or information. I feel that my supervisor would fall under the expert power.
6. A task focused leader’s behavior is most important when new employees are being hired so they can learn the standards and requirements from them. Also it is probably most helpful during times of growth within the company and to meet new deadlines. An employee focused leader is where a leader focuses on how satisfied, motivated and the overall well-being of the employees. A few years ago I worked for the school board in the lunch room and I had a boss whom I thought was amazing. She was always kind and understanding of any situation that may have come up whether it be a sick child or one of wanting to attend an award ceremony for our child. Our boss did not have to permit us the ability to attend these ceremony’s as over time it was like one a quarter but, she would always work something out. Although, she is retired I have seen her out in the community and she has always been warm and inviting her personality and warm qualities have always remained with me as she just had a kind heart and it shines through
