Importance Of Moving Up In The Military

Looking back at my short life I seem to have 20/20 vision. I see the choices that I have made and the outcomes that have happened. I would like to share a very important choice that I’ve made about joining the Navy. It’s been eleven years now since I made this life altering decision. In the year 2002, I was sixteen years old and in high school wood shop. I remember my teacher Mr. Cox making an announcement to the class. “Everyone that would like to receive extra credit can go take the Military’s Armed Service’s Vocational Aptitude and Battery test (ASVAB) in the auditorium now.” That sounded better than building a bird house that looked like a mess. I was not the best carpenter. In my head I was thinking; “yeah right! Me in the military, yeah …show more content…
Phillips as my college. The goals for my life are simple and they come from my Dad. As a little boy I remember my dad telling me “now son, I don’t care what you do just be the best you can be at whatever you choose to do.” As a young child I didn’t actually know what he meant by it. Years later I think I know what he meant by it, now that I have kids of my own. To move up in the military I need continuing education field, a degree, and professional knowledge. Going to college at a great location is a start to all of that. I have a goal to be an officer in the Navy someday. I meet all the requirements but one… that’s having a bachelor’s degree in some fashion. My goal is to be applying to the Navy’s officer candidate school in four years from now. Others in the military may say that is going to be hard, maybe impossible due to the fact I am in the military. I say let me try. I know that I am going to have long days and sleepless nights. Great bring them on! I started this semester at St. Phillips. A start; at improving mine as well as my families’ life. With choosing to get a degree plan which will help me get a bachelor almost anywhere the military sends me. Me getting a higher education I will be able to get paid more and the more I get paid the better I can provide for my family. I can get in to a Navy officer program opening doors, which as a little boy I would only dream about. I as a husband and a dad want to give my wife and children a life that, any parent/ spouse would want to give their family. That’s why I choose

My interest in the Naval Academy and the fleet began as just another college option. I have not had any family member serve in the Navy and was rather indifferent to military service, other than my admiration for the men and women who serve. As I continued to explore my options, the Naval Academy remained on the backburner until I visited for the summer STEM program two years ago. As soon as I first walked on post, I instantly knew I loved it--the beautiful old architecture, the shimmering blue water, and the white-clad Midshipmen marching crisply down Stribbling. This past summer, when I visited again for NASS, I decided the Naval Academy was the one for me.…

Everybody has done something about which they are proud, whether it be winning a competition, sacrificing their time to helps others, or achieving a personal goal. Looking back on my life, there are several accomplishments of which I am quite proud. I I have completed The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) Bootcamp. It is a U.S. Navy-based organization that serves to teach individuals about the sea going military services, U.S. naval operations and training, community service, citizenship, and an understanding of discipline and teamwork. Each Cadet must attend NSCC recruit training, which serves to introduce each "recruit" to the standards and routine involved in the life of a Sea Cadet.…

I am Daphne Williams, I'm originally from a small town near Pensacola, FL where growing up my parents pushed to work hard and do right by my elders. I never thought going to school to further my studies would be an option being that it wasn’t enforced in my household growing up. A few years after graduation of high school I joined the service after realizing that minimum wage wasn't exactly what I wanted to continue with. At the time of joining the service I realized I wanted to be capable of doing so much more but had little or no direction as to what I wanted to do exactly. After completion of my first two years in the service I hated it until I crossed paths with a great leader while deployed in Afghanistan.…

Before the summer of my sophomore year, I had not thought about my post high school plans beyond knowing I would like to attend college. However, I attended a STEM camp at Valparaiso University in Indiana where I met former astronaut and Naval Academy graduate, Ken Ham. He inspired me to not only begin my own flight training, but to start investigating the Naval Academy. The more I learned about the Naval Academy and the different opportunities that serving as an officer in the military presented, the more determined I became to attend. I understand that the decision to attend a service academy is not to be taken lightly.…

I am usually very good with troubleshooting and have a passion to study why something does that do what it does. I am 37 (38 in April) years old and want to have my second career after the military in the IT field.…
