Studies in psychoneuroimmunology indicate that having an upbeat and positive attitude makes an individual live a longer and healthier life. Conversely, people who fill their lives with a negative energy and outlook are most likely to lead shorter lives. As such, people who always tend to expect the worst in their lives have a 25 percent chance of dying before the age of 65. Therefore, the psychological interventions and states held by an individual tend to affect their pathophysiologic and physiologic processes as well as outcomes of clinical illnesses.
The interaction of body and mind is also seen as the source of both disease and health. Additionally, researchers have found out that psychological factors play an integral role in the onset and progress of chronic disorders with behavioral, psychosocial, emotional, and psychological interventions providing effective treatments. As a result, incorporating the mind-body medicine and techniques into the primary care is essential for maintaining a healthy life.
