The practice of yoga and meditation are proven to be a powerful source for many people around the world and can be practiced if you’re a beginner or in advanced yoga. Practicing yoga has many benefits that can change an individual’s life mentally and physically. Spiritual healing is one the benefits that has helped individuals live happier and healthier lives when they experience spiritual healing throughout time. Spiritual healing is defined by Merriam Webster of or relating to a person’s spirit, of or relating to religion or religious beliefs, having similar values and ideas: related or joined in spirit. Another benefit of practicing yoga is that it can be practice anywhere it does not have to at the gym or at a yoga studio. Not only can adults practice spiritual healing, but there has been proven that children can practice yoga and find inner peace. In the article sharing my journey and opening spaces: spiritually in the classroom the author Mata shares her story about her interest in children and spiritual healing. She claimed, “I was seven at the time, and I cannot remember a time thereafter in which I did not continue to ponder, reflect, and search for spiritual answers” (Mata, 2014, p. 112). Many people view spiritual healing in many ways. For example, whenever I try to mediate during yoga I try to find my inner peace through myself and God. Even though I have trouble mediating because my mind is always racing with thoughts I try to relax and find my soul. In the article A pilot study Examining the Effects of Kouk Sun Do on University Students with Anxiety symptoms the authors Jong-Ho, Heewon, and Schroeppel conducted a study on the effects of Kouk Sun Do (KSD) which is “a mind body exercise on mental health in university students were investigated in this study”(Jong-Ho, Heewon, and Schroeppel 2013, pg. 1). These students reported that they were feeling anxious. Anxiety is one of the common mental disorders in the world and can lead to other mental conditions if untreated. Since college students are the most common people to deal with stress and anxiety this can lead to many health problems throughout time. Most college students as myself work part-time and go to school full-time since I started college, my stress levels and anxiety have increased. Because I would get stressed out about homework and work throughout the week. When the weekend is here I still have to work and do homework so I felt that I never had the time to relax and practice breathing techniques to relax my mind and body.
