How Did Thomson Contribute To The Development Of The Electron

In 1897, J.J. Thomson discovered the electron by experimenting with a Crookes, or cathode ray, tube. He demonstrated that cathode rays were negatively charged. In addition, he also studied positively charged particles in neon gas. Thomson realized that the accepted model of an atom did not account for negatively or positively charged particles. jj Thompson thought the atom looked like a plum pudding. this meant he thought the atom was a ball of positive charge (the pudding) with smaller balls of negative charge embedded in it (the plums).
John Dalton (1766-1844) developed the first useful atomic theory of matter around 1803. In the course of his studies on meteorology, Dalton concluded that evaporated water exists in air as an independent gas.
