An Argument's Stasis Map

Great Essays
In this stasis map paper there is four parts of an argument that will be discussed. This argument process was developed by Aristotle and Hermogenes, in ancient Greece. The four parts are conjecture, definition, quality and policy. Conjecture is the cause and the effect of an argument.Definition is the “What is the nature of the problem/issue?What exactly is the problem/issue?What kind of a problem/issue is it?To what larger class of things or events does it belong? What are its parts, and how are they related?” in this part of the argument you are not only defining the issue but the words used to describe it as well. Quality is the good or the bad of an argument. Some of the questions that might be asked are “ how serious is this issue?, what …show more content…
It’s the overall facts about an argument. Over the past year nuclear energy has become a very popular. There is many arguments that have usen conjecture to support nuclear energy.Nuclear energy is “the energy in the nucleus or core,of an atom.” Atom makes up everything in the universe. The energy in the atoms is what holds the nucleus together which is called Strong Force. Today, we use nuclear energy to create electricity. However, the energy must first be put off by the atom. This is not the only way the energy can be released. The atoms can also be split to put off the energy. Splitting the atoms is called a Nuclear Reaction, in this case the scientist inject many neutrons at the Uranium-235 atoms. When a single neutron hits the nucleus it makes it become Uranium-236, make the atoms wanting to split apart. With the atom splitting it releases three neutron and a lot of energy. We use the energy in the nuclear reactors or power plants which creates the energy. This is done by machines controlling the nuclear fission which produces the energy. The nuclear fission that is being produced is the Uranium pellets. When the atoms break apart they release tiny fission products, which cause the change reaction. The change reaction creates the heat, which warms reactors cooling agent. The cooling agent is a material used in a nuclear power plant like water. …show more content…
In 1899, Rutherford separates alpha and beta radiation and discovers half-life. Rutherford discovered Radioactivity when working on Phosphorescent materials. Phosphorescent materials is a related to fluorescence, however unlike fluorescences it absorbs radiation. Rutherford also discovered most mass is concentrated in a small nucleus. Ruther could tell that the nucleus has a large mass by the diameter of the nucleus is 10^5 times smaller than the atom. 1919 through 1920’s Ernest creates the splitting with the atoms and theorizes a neutron. However, it was not till 1932 when Chadwick identifies what’s a neutron is. In 1934, Enrico Fermi achieves nuclear fission. In 1938, Hann and Strassman split atoms with neutrons calling it a fission. In 1939, Szilard, Wigner and Teller also convince Einstein to sign a letter warning Roosevelt of the possible weapons that could come from nuclear energy. Roosevelt authorizes creation of Advisory Committee on Uranium, begins in the US nuclear bomb effort. A few years later in 1942, Fermi achieves the first nuclear chain reaction in a squash court a U. of Chicago Manhattan project in full swing; Secret cities built in Oak Ridge TN and Los Alamos Nm. July 1945 there was the first nuclear weapon test. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are nuked, scarring public opinion of nuclear technology. By the sixth through the ninth of august in 1945, year

Otto Hahn was a German chemist who discovered fission, fission is the action of dividing or splitting something into two or more parts. When Hahn discovered nuclear fission he unintentionally discovered how to create an atomic bomb. Hahn discovered nuclear fission by having a speed neutron hit a uranium atom, the uranium atom spit. When the speeding neutron hit the nucleus of the uranium atom the atom stretched until it split.…

In 1943 an Italian Physicist, Enrico Fermi, created a chain reaction that changed the course of history. The U.S started the Manhattan project in fear of if the Germans got the atomic bomb first that they would use it for the wrong cause. There were two bombs that were dropped in World War II. Both were built and dropped by the U.S. The United States dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima.…

In 1939, FDR was given letter from Albert Einstein outlining the idea that potentially deadly weapons could come from using nuclear energy. Upon receiving this letter, FDR authorized the establishment of the Advisory Committee on Uranium, which began research on nuclear energy. In 1941, the Uranium Committee was granted government funding, and in 1942 FDR specifically endorsed pursuing the development of a nuclear weapon in a letter to the head of the committee. In 1942, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, FDR created a specific army division called the Manhattan Engineering District to help with the nuclear research. This was the official beginning of the Manhattan Project.…

In 1934, Enrico Fermi wanted to see if he could create heavier isotopes of uranium, so he tried bombarding uranium-238 (ordinary uranium) with slow-moving neutrons, reasoning that if the uranium nuclei captured the neutrons, he would create a new, heavier uranium isotope. He found the experimental results puzzling; the bombardment had resulted in two new products, but he couldn't figure out what they were, since they didn't have the chemical characteristics of uranium. …

Many types of argument exist; however, all of them classify as one of the following a forensic argument, a ceremonial argument, or a deliberative argument. A forensic argument tends to be about past events just like in the article published in The New York Times, “Rail Industry Had Safety Technology Decades Ago.” Ron Nixon, a New York Times writer, has earned an credible reputation by publishing many articles in the well known established newspaper. A ceremonial argument comes up in the article “Beijing’s Fear of Technology” where the author, James Zimmerman focused in a present issue. Zimmerman has also earned his credibility by constantly writing and publishing article revolving around China, leading his audience to observe he keeps up to date about Beijing’s latest problems arising.…

Nuclear Energy In this report the only form of nuclear energy that will be discussed is sodium cooled Fast Neutron/breeder Reactors (FNR). Nuclear reactors work by the fission of a heavy element, most commonly Uranium-235 (U-235) into two smaller elements through the bombardment of the atom with a neutron. With the fission of the heavier element along with the production of two lighter elements, high energy photons (gamma radiation) and neutrons are also released. The neutron produced causes a chain reaction as it collides with other U-235 atoms.…

Nuclear technology or nuclear energy is the energy produced by an atomic nuclei reaction. Two ways this energy is produced is by nuclear fission and nuclear fusion. Nuclear fission is when a heavy atomic nucleus divides into two nuclei. Nuclear fusion is when atomic nuclei come together to form a heavier nucleus. They both release an abundance of energy.…
