Guides are created by the teacher to allow the students to practice comparing or contrasting material. The teacher finds the pattern and the major concepts of the topic and then designs the pattern guide. Students may need to begin with guides partially completed and eventually transition to completing their own. The goal is to instruct students to find patterns in reading material.
3+ Level Guides are teacher created statements that are designed to integrate three levels of comprehension. True and false statements are created by the teacher to allow students to connect to the material in a literal, inferential and real world application. The teacher uses the text to create five to six statements that are factual, then another five to six statements that use inferential thinking with the third level consisting of higher order thinking. Students apply the statements to the topic they are learning
