From the data given in Table 1, there are a total of four mixtures present in the whole activity. This is because the main mixture which is the salt, sand, chalk, and water mixture can’t be separated using only one separation technique; it should be separated by parts. First, a filter paper was used to separate the salt and water from the chalk and sand. is the filtration process, a separation technique using a filter paper to separate solid particles in a liquid. Second, acid dissolution, using HCl (Hydrochloric acid) that will react with calcium carbonate to produce CO2 , thus creating a chemical reaction. Afterwhich, evaporation was used to separate the table salt from the water. Specifically, this technique entails the changing of the liquids in a solution to a gaseous state by means of heat — leaving behind the solid particles. Lastly, decantation was used to separate the sand from the water. This process is done by letting the denser particles settle to the bottom of the container, then carefully transferring the less dense liquid particles to another container. These separation techniques were used based on the properties of the components to be separated. Solid and liquid components can be separated using evaporation, filtration, and decantation. Heterogeneous are mixtures wherein the components are distinct and visible to the viewers. However, homogenous mixtures have a uniform composition and appearance despite being composed of different substances. Pure substances on the other hand can be classified into two: Elements and compounds. Compounds cannot be separated by physical means and has a fixed ratio of elements. An element or compound is said to be pure when no impurities are found with the use of the best analytical equipment
