In the novella ‘Hiroshima’, Sachi and her mum survive the disaster except her sister Riko and her dad. On the other hand, the film ‘War of the Worlds’, all the main protagonists Ray, Robbie and Rachael survives the disaster at the end of the film to meet his ex-wife in Boston. Ray’s son Robbie leaves his father and his sister during the attack and joins the Army to stop the invasion. Ray was in a dilemma whether/deciding to stop his son from joining the Army or save his daughter from a strange woman, but he chooses to keep his daughter safe as Robbie decides to leave his father and decides to help people from the invasion. All the characters survive the attack, including Robbie. This clearly demonstrates that Robbie is so brave and helpful that he leaves his father and Rachael to help people from the attack. Also, he keeps them safe until the attack ends. Ray protects his daughter Rachael until he meets his ex-wife in Boston. The author of the novella explains that “Sachi’s family did not survive in the disaster in the city of Hiroshima, Japan. Sachi loses her father on an island in the Pacific and her sister Riko in the bombing.” (Page 24 & 30) Although, the novella explores that the bomb has taken away many peoples’ lives during World War II except for Sachi and her mum as it is a real event.
