The Westing Game book begins with Barney Northrup renting out all of the apartments in one day at Sunset Towers, where all the windows are one-way glass. One of the guests staying at Sunset Towers was Turtle and her family, who were upgrading from their old home. Barney knew about all the heirs old homes and how much they cost on upkeep before they came to Sunset Towers. On Halloween, Otis Amber, Doug Hoo, and Sandy McSouthers, (all heirs of Sam Westing) dare Turtle to go into the Westing manor and for every minute she remains in the house, she will receive two dollars. One of the most distinct similarities between these mediums is the story. The basic plot of The Westing Game is for the characters in the story to find out who killed Sam Westing. This objective remains in both the novel and the movie. Another similarity is that Turtle discovered the truth about what happened to Sam Westing and won the estate before any of the other heirs in the movie and novel. The next similarity is the setting. In the novel and the movie, the story takes place in the fall in Wisconsin. The heirs of Sam Westing all stay at Sunset Towers, an apartment complex near Sam Westing’s mansion.
