In my opinion, it was ethical to lend the necklace because she would only use it for that night for the party and she certainly knew that she must return it back after use without any damages done on the necklace. Her son also knew that if the necklace was lost, he would have to afford options and his mother will go to prison. It may actually not be ethical to lend an item as the purpose of item is to sell, but if there is a special request, in this case a party, it will be fine.
