Beowulf Epic Hero Essay

During the story of Beowulf, Beowulf shows many attributes that he is an epic Hero. He starts off by doing good deeds for a neighboring kingdom out of the goodness of his heart. He avenges his friend's death, and also kills off a race of monsters. By the end of the story he puts his own life in danger to save his kingdom. Throughout the many feats he accomplishes he shows some amazing and super natural attributes that are similar to many epic heros.
The first step of Beowulf's journey as a hero he decides to kill Grendel, the monster that slaughter 30 Danes in their sleep. He does this so without the Hrothgar, the king of Heorot, asking him to. When the battle begins between Beowulf and Grendel he tell his soldiers to not fight, and he does not use his armour or weapons. Beowulf wants the fight to be between him and Grendel’s brute force. Beowulf end up winning the fight and rips off Grendel's arm. This feat is epic because it shows the pure strength Beowulf has by himself and his incredible strength to be able to rip off the demon's arm. He does this all out of kindness for the king, because he believes it is the right thing to do. This

Beowulf spends days swimming underwater to find her. When the battle begins Beowulf find a magical sword made for giants that he uses to fight the monster. This shows his unnatural strength and endurance to be able to survive underwater for several days along with slaying this monster. He survives this counter and surfaces to water where all of his friends presume he is dead because of all the blood rising up from the ocean and the length he was under water. This accomplishment of slaying Grendel's mother is another epic event of Beowulf’s story. He does this out of revenge for one of his fallen comrades, this shows he is not afraid to put his own life at danger in order to save more people that could fall to this
