Beowulf was a honored hero in both the epic and the movie. The epic shows some differences that the movie doesn't show and visa/versa. For example in the epic as Hrothgar is being attacked by Grendel not once did it say that Hrothgar was Grendle’s fathers. This would have put a lot of suspense on the story and reader if it was mentioned in the book. The move tells us that some how the dragon is the son of Beowulf. Make Beowulf not a human but a god. I realized that the move concludes with Beowulf killing the dragon by ripping his heart out which was no the case in the story. The book tells us that Beowulf ends up killing Grendel’s mother in a big fight that took 9 hours to complete and also almost killed him. In the movie it seemed as Grendel’s mother hypnotized Hrothgar and Beowulf into letting her keep reeking havoc on the world. Beowulf became king according to the book upon his arrival to his homeland; however, in the movie he became king of Herot. Beowulf became king of Herot because Hrothgar jumped from the castle and killed himself, yet in the book Hrothgar died. Beowulf also had no wife, mistresses, or any children during his reign as king in the book.…

He is portrayed as an epic hero that can withstand anything. In the movie, on the other hand, Beowulf lies and is sometimes very cowardly. It could be argued that this was done to humanize the character, but unfortunately this lead to Beowulf’s death against his son, the dragon, to be very unrighteous. Because he lied about killing Grendel’s mother, his character’s death isn’t as honorable as it was in the poem. It felt unsatisfying that he died the way he did.…
