Have you ever felt that you tried your best at something? That you gave it your all? Just to have your hopes crushed, leave you disappointed, and feel as if you have failed to do what you set out to accomplish? This very same thing happened to me my freshman year of high school. I was new to the Forrest City School District, but I did not let that discourage me. I decided to try out for the Forrest City High School Cheerleading team, but unfortunately did not make it. I spent countless hours practicing and practicing, but it seemed as if it was not enough. At first I did not see what I did wrong. I kept asking myself what did I do that was wrong? What did I do that caused me not to make the team? During that time of tryouts, not only was I dealing with tryouts, I was preparing for a conference track meet that same week. Now I 'm not one to make excuses, but I will admit it was a tad big challenging dealing with tryouts, track, and school during that week. At first I wasn 't going to tryout, I figured that I might as well wait until I get more comfortable with the school. After undergoing much consideration and thought, with the help of my fellow classmates, I decided that, as my mother…
Choices in Little Rock “Two, four, six, eight, we ain’t gonna integrate!” Screamed the mob surrounding the high school. Integration at Central High School in Little Rock Arkansas with the group known as, the Little Rock Nine, sparked many emotions and opinions out of people. The Little Rock Nine consisted of Melba Patillo (the main character of the book) and eight other brave teenagers. sources used to support the arguments and facts about the life of Bates. Continuing this trend, the analysis on her personal life and more so the in-depth analysis on her contributions to the movement especially her involvement in the NAACP make this source a strong contribution. One weakness of this novel is its lack of attention to other important players in Daisy Bates’s life, such as the Little Rock Nine. Both had drastic influences on each other, but this source pays little to no attention…
It is interesting to hear how Wal-Mart stores began as I was not aware of the history of how the company had grown to the large retail and wholesale giant they are today. There is a definite relationship between economies of scale and the success they business has accrued. Because they purchase enormous quantities of products for resale, the cost for the consumer is much lower; therefore, creating the competitive market advantage (Thomas & Maurice, 2010). Personally, I can’t think of many…

students grow socially and academically. A former member of the club with a consistent relatable spirit allowed students to open up and enjoy my presence. My volunteerism with this organization gave me a bigger opportunity to be a part of the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation. Being a Big Sister helped me remain humble as I continued to maintain a sustainable relationship. Jameeka’s positive attitude has influenced other young ladies in her school to be a part of the Big Brother Big Sister…
One of the best places in Arkansas to go to college in order to become a sports reporter would be Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. In order to be accepted into Arkansas State University unconditionally, one must have a high school GPA of at…
George W. Jenkins, the founder of Publix Super Markets, was born September 29, 1907 in Warms Springs, Georgia. George’s family had owned a general store in his town, catering to farmers. The founder of Walmart is Sam Walton. He started off in the retail business with JC Penny’s in 1940. In 1945, he was offered a variety store called Ben Franklin in Newport, Arkansas. When the lease came up, the lease was not renewed. He then opened up a Walton’s Five and Dime store. Sam was very successful at selling high volume and low cost merchandise. His strategy was to have “The lowest Prices Anytime, Anywhere.” (Our History, 2016) The store is now a Walmart museum. In 1962, the…
