Mundt’s work transcends the specialized limitations subject to contemporary painters, extending in both materiality and environment through the integration of everyday objects as the primary foundation. While the subject matters of the paintings vary from paradisiacal landscapes to female figures, the constant interaction between verticality and horizontality, portrait and landscape, subject and object is coherently recognized throughout. Her work is not only visually idyllic, but also…
Public Art is ubiquitous through agricultural. From a small building to a monument, numerous people are not aware of how an art can change the perspective of the community. Their inability to interpret and analyze the artwork that the artists were hired create many problems such social, arigcultural and political issues. Because of that, some people criticize the impact of the public to the community that result in demolishing the art project. Harriet Senie believes that the communities…
to create this using oil on canvas. I think this was a great choice because with the use of harsh brush strokes and lighting the impressionist style really became apparent. Raffaelli really stood out as an artist because of how he executed his contemporary art. Nothing was idealized or made to seem better than it was; he chose topics that were relevant to the times and depicted them in a relatable way. This piece stood out to me because I feel as though even though only two men are being shown,…
Traditional art has continued in Asia to this day, but rapid change has been taking place. In many countries across Asia, the problem artists are finding is getting rid of tradition and breaking out of that shell. While many are holding on strong to traditions like calligraphy, and Chinese porcelain ceramic making, others are finding a way to fuse the two together. Now artists are finding ways to use symbols and hints of traditional-based art forms to send political, economic, and…
taking the stance of his work as being technically beautiful as well as arguing that he uses photography to push our popular perceptions of sexuality and fine art. The first conflict that Robert Mapplethorpe faced was the age of photography itself. Photography has not been around for very long. In fact, it was not fully considered or recognized an art form throughout the 19th century do to it being the most mechanical (not to mention newest) of mediums. Liz Wells acknowledges this argument,…
Art is a creative expression formed to provoke powerful reactions, discussion, emotion, understanding and/or confusion. It has no limitations in the messages or aesthetic that an artist can bring to the forefront. This creates a perfect space to speak about social or political issues. This is no different in Aboriginal Art. Pre-colonised Aboriginal peoples used art to symbolically tell stories and document scientific knowledge for tens of thousands of years. The artists traditionally used the…
Contemporary art is often defined as the work of artists that are living in the period of the 21st century. This specific type of at often mirrors the culture and society and provides a vast resource that allows for contemplation of current social ideas as well as a new way to view familiar ideas. The works of art that are often created by contemporary artists represent a dynamic combination of various types of subjects, methods, concepts, and different materials. The use of these ideals often…
The art museum that I was able to visit is called the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. This is a fairly small museum. It exhibited a peaceful ambiance. The arts it included were mostly paintings. Overall, I was not impressed with the museum. The museum displayed artists with a lot of bright colors that really jumped out at you. I personally prefer classical art over contemporary art. I feel that classical art has more of a calming feel to it. I also really like art from the Hellenistic…
Wild Things Are. This performance was a combination of contemporary “modern” dance and hip-hop. Both of these styles are very misunderstood, and many people do not consider them as actual dance. Both styles are legitimate art. They have a lot of hard work put into them, and can bring you some type of enjoyment. That enjoyment can be emotional or physical, depending on the person. These two styles of dance should be considered legitimate art or legitimate dance, because they have both of these…
entering the RISD museum I was greeted by the quaint streets of the historic east-side of Providence. It's often an overlooked part of town due to the city life but really earns it's merit in beautifully restored colonial homes and colorful street art. The streets had tall green trees that bordered the sidewalk perfectly, and the light post were littered with local stickers either for a cause or promoting a local artist. Luckily, I was able to find parking rather easily because I went on an off…
