Both his grandfather and his father are musicians and his father, Johann, had a singing job at the court and also teach piano and violin to others privately to get enough money to keep the family comfortable. Ludwig van Beethoven grew up in a not very happy family because of his father being a drinker. He had started learning how to play the piano as soon as he can reach the keyboard. Beethoven was pulled up in the middle of the night to play for his father who was drunk. Although, Ludwig didn’t want to wake up, he had to get up and play or else he would get beatings from his drunk father. Beethoven later on learned more with the court organist, Christian Gottlob Neefe, who was also a great composer. Neefe trusted Beethoven greatly because Neefe allowed the twelve-year old Beethoven in charge of the orchestra sometimes when Neefe had something important to do. Later on, in 1784, he was assigned as the court organist but his salary was very small in amount. Ludwig van Beethoven had many admirers and they suggest that the elector sends him to Vienna. Luckily, the elector agreed and Beethoven left in 1787 of April. He however did not stay for more than two week due to his mother’s illness. the context is being blocked (Hurford et al 2007: 57). Hurford et al (2007) argued that opaque context seems to include verbs such as want, believe, think and wander about. This is a strong example of opaque context because the referent is not clear so it cannot be interpreted as a referring expression. This type of referent is described as specific because Sam is obviously a specific person and…

Learning to live a Christian life is one thing, but living out what we have learned is another story. As Christians, I think we have a greater responsibility because we know how the world should look, and we need to step up and lead the people around us. In order to share the gospel with others, we have to take a look at what God is calling us to do. Leading others consists of knowing what the Christian life looks like, sharing that with others, and staying faithful and truthful in what we say…

“Sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” (ESV Colossians 3:5) We still feel exactly what Paul writes in Colossians 3:8, “Anger, wrath, malice, slander.” (ESV Colossians 3:5) As Christian people, who intend to follow Christ, we sometimes do not really follow Christ. It is easy to say love your neighbor, meaning everyone. On the other hand, it is very hard to follow through with that. You really learn how much the Lord loves you when you try to love…

Lewis offers an insight into the Christian world that I, and many other teenagers and even adults, probably have never even thought about or considered. When first reading the book I was frustrated with C.S. Lewis. The way he explained things made me feel as if he was trying to reach out to me, and any other reader, as if we were completely clueless to Christianity. But, as I continued to read I realized that if he were not to write like that I still would be as confused about my faith as I was…

In the 1800s, Alexis de Tocqueville claimed that “There is no country in the world where the Christian religion retains a greater influence over the souls of men than in America.” This was understandably true in the early nineteenth century. Even today, religion plays a significant role in laws and issues in our country. However, the truth of the matter often gets lost in the changes that our society has gone through. Many today end up rejecting or condemning Christianity as childish,…

Critical Reflection 1 The call to be a Christian is unique to the individual who chooses to follow the word of the Lord and bring Christ into their life. For some, they could have grown up in a Christian household and took upon their parent’s beliefs; others may have not been looking for their faith in God, but rather stumbled upon it unknowingly. My path to Christ is unique because I was raised in a Catholic-household, meaning I went through my First Communion and Confirmation, but I still…
