No.
What is different about a nematoda's sperm?
It doesn't swim. It is amoeboid, so it uses a pseudopodia to get around.
The body of a nematode is enclosed in a what?

What is a nematode's nervous system composed of?
No brain, but a nerve circle pharynx and a dorsal and ventral nerve cord.
What does the genus Ascaris lumbricoides (underlined) translate to?
"earthworm like"
What is the genus of the nematode we dissected in class?
Ascaris lumbricoides (underlined)
What does crytobiotic mean?
"hidden life" -can survive lots of elements without dying, this applies mostly to free living nematodes.
What is the life cycle of an Ascaris lumbricoides (underlined)?
eggs in feces of the infected, pass on leafy greens, eggs are eaten, larvae gets in intestines, burrows through intestinal wall and enters blood stream, moves to lungs, goes up trachea to the mouth, come out mouth and nose, some get swallowed, end up in intestines as adults.
What does the genus Enterobius vermicularis (underlined) translate to?
"intestine live worm"
What are Enterobius vermicularis (underlined)?
Pin worms.
How big are Enterobius vermicularis (underlined)?
only mm.s long, but visible to the eye.
Where are pin worms found?
in colon and rectum.
Who is susceptible to pin worms and why?

What the genus Wuchereria bancrofti (underlined)?
a filarial worm transmitted by mosquitoes.
Where do Wuchereria bancrofti live?
Tropical area.
Are Wuchereria bancrofti free living or parasitic?
Parasitic.
Why Wuchereria bancrofti (underlined) bad for the host?
Goes to lymphatic system, enters lymphatic vessels and blocks them which means fluid can't travel back to your heart and wherever the worms are, it swells like crazy.
What disease does Wuchereria bancrofti (underlined) cause?
Elephantitis.
What does the genus Necator americanus (underlined) translate to?
"death america"
What are Necator americanus (underlined)?
Hook worms
Where are hook worms found?
S. East America
What is the life cycle of the hook worm?
larva passes out an infected person and onto the ground, the burrow into your foot, make their way to lungs, and have similar journey as the Ascaris (underlined).
Why are hook worms bad for kids especially?
Because they would rob kids of nutrients and the kids brains wouldn't develop properly.
What are the genus Trichinella spiralis (underlined)?
Trichina worms.
What disease does Trichinella spiralis (underlined) cause?
Trichinosis.
Where would you find Trichinella spiralis (underlined)?
They encyst in mammalian muscles, and live in uncooked meat.
What is the life cycle of Trichinella spiralis (underlined)?
eat them in uncooked meat, end up in intestines, burrow through to muscles, encyst, turns muscle cells to nurse cells that lose striations and just take care of the little spiraled worm inside.
What does and does not kill a Tricinella spiralis (underlined)?
Microwave does, freezing does not.
