What is DNA
deoxyribonucleic acid

double-stranded polymer made up of nucleotides

The base (in triplets) in many portions of the DNA code for amino acid sequences that make up protein products
Chromatin
the loose, uncoiled state of DNA during interphase
Chromosomes
the condensed, tightly coiled molecules of DNA visible starting in Prohpase of both mitosis & meiosis
Sister chromatids
gnetically identical copies of a chromosome attached at the centromere
Centromere
part of the chormosome that connects the sister chromatids, consists mostly of repetitive satellite DNA
Centrosomes
centers of microtubule organization; duplicated during G2 of interphase & migrate to opposite poles during cell division to pull chomosomes apart
What are the 2 main functions of mitosis?
Growth & repair/replacement of multicellular organisms
Interphase consists of
Gap 1
Synthesis
Gap 2
Gap 1
cell growth/metabolic activity. DNA
Synthesis
DNA replication
Gap 2
cell gets bigger, further preperation for division, centrosomes duplicate
What are the phases of mitosis
and can you learn all of them by the midterm you fucking idiot
Prophase
Prometaphase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase & Cytokinesis
