What is the origin, insertion, innervation and action of the platysma?
O: dorsal median raphe of the neck
I: Angle of the mouth
I: Dorsal and ventral buccal brs and caudal auricular br. of the facial n.
A: draw the commisure of the lips caudally
What is the innervations and action of the orbicularis oris m.?
I: Dorsal and ventral buccal brs of facial n.
A: close lips (not mouth), pull nose downward during sniffing, dilate nostril
Where does the buccinator m. attach, and what is its innervation and action?
Attachments: alveolar margins of the mandible and maxilla and buccal mucosa.
I: dorsal and ventral buccal brs. of facial n.
A: move food from the vestibule to the masticatory surface of the teeth.
What are the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the levator nasolabialis m.?
O: maxillary bone
I: edge of upper lip and external naris
I: auriculopalpebral br. of facial n.
A: dilate nostril and raise upper lip
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of zygomaticus m.?
O: scutiform cartilage
I: commisure of the lips
I: auriculopalpebral br. of facial n.
A: draw the commisure of the mouth dorsocaudally, draw the scutiform cartilage rostrally
What is the origin, insertion, innervation and action of the parotidoauricularis m.?
O: cervical fascia of ventral midline
I: antitragus of the ear
I: CN VII
A: Depress the ear
What are the palpebral ligaments? What do they attach?
The medial palpebral ligament attaches the medial palpebral commissure to the frontal bone.

The lateral palpebral ligament attaches the lateral palpebral commissure to the zygomatic bone.
What is the conjunctival fornix?

What is the space called that is between the eyeball and the palpebrae?
It is the union of the palpebral conjunctiva and bulbar conjunctiva.

The space is called the conjunctival sac.
T/F Tarsal gland secretions are a part of tears.
True.
The tarsal glands are modified sebaceous glands at the eyelid margins. They are better developed in the upper eyelid.
Is the third eyelid on the medial or lateral side of the eyeball?

Where is the lacrimal gland in relation to the eyeball?
The third eyelid is on the medial side.

The lacrimal gland is inside the bony orbit on the dorsolateral surface of the eyeball.
Describe the journey of a tear from the intro music of a Hallmark commercial to the tissue.
The tears are formed in the lacrimal gland and course through ducts to the conjuctival sac where they course over the anterior surface of the eye to collect in the ventral lacrimal lake.

As long as the commerical isn't too touching, they will be drained through the lacrimal puncta (one on the superior palpebra, one on the inferior palpebra) through the lacrimal ducts, or canaliculi, to the lacrimal sac in the lacrimal fossa of the lacrimal bone. From there, they will travel through the nasolacrimal duct to the nasal vestibule where you will blow them out into a tissue.
What are the third eyelids aliases?

What gland surrounds it?
Plica semilunaris and nictitating membrane.

It is surrounded by the superficial gland.
What muscle encircles the eye?

What are the opposing two muscles extending out from each commisure?

What are these three muscles innervated by?
The orbicularis oculi m. encircles the eye and acts to close the palpebral fissure.

The retractor anguli oculi lateralis m. squints the eye and the levator anguli oculi medialis raises the eyelid.

These three muscle are muscles of facial expression so are innervated by the facial nerve.
Differentiate between the auricular, annular and scutiform cartilages of the ear.
Auricular is the funnel shape forming the vertical and part of the horizontal ear canal.

Annular is between the auricular and external acoustic meatus, forming the horizontal ear canal.

Scutiform is the small cartilaginous plate in the rostromedial muscles of the external ear on the parietal bone..
Is the pretragic incisure caudal or rostral to the tragus?
Rostral
What does the intertragic incisure lay between?
The tragus and antiragus.
Define antitragus.
The thick part of the auricular cartilage located laterally.
What is another name for the tympanic membrane?

Where is the tympanic membrane located?
It's the ear drum and it is located between the external ear canal and the middle ear inside the tympanic bulla.
