Cell theory
All cells arise from pre-existing cells, they pass on genetic material and the cell is the basic unit of life.
Mrs Gren
All living things must - Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition
Domains of Life
The three domains are Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya.
Kngdoms of life
Bacteria, Protista, Fungi, Animalia, Plantae
Archaea
Ancient bacteria
Bacteria
Unicellular, Cell wall, but no nucleus
Eukarya
Cells have nuclei, including protists, plants, fungi, and animals
Protista
single-celled and primitive multicelled organisms, such as paramecium and amoeba
Fungi
heterotrophs, have no means of movement, reproduce by using spores.
Animalia
multicellular, mobile heterotrophs whose cells do not have cell walls
Plantae
multicellular organisms, cell walls of cellulose, that have pigments that absorb light, and are autotrophs
Viruses
Non-living - consist essentially of a core of RNA or DNA, unable to replicate outside a host cell.
Tissue
A group of similar cells that perform a specific function - liver cells, brain cells.
Organ
A collection of tissues that carry out a specialized function of the body - lungs, heart, kidneys.
Body system
A group of organs that work together to perform a specific function - circulatory system (heart, blood vessels, spleen).
