How did Britain get involved in the war?

Well you see, Austria Hungary gave Serbia an ultimatanium and they declined a few points so Austria Hungary attacked them. Russia came to help Serbia, but then Germany declared war on Russia as a show of support to Austria Hungary. Due to their alliance with Russia, France declared war on Germany, and since they were rivals, Germany naturally declared war against them and began the schliffen plan. When they moved through neutral Belgium the king asked Britain for aid and voila, Britain joined the war with France and Russia.

What was the schliffen plan

It was Germany plan to defeat both Russia and France in the war. They believed that it would take at least six weeks for Russia to mobilise against them due to the massive distance and their huge force. The Germans thought that they could send 90 percent of their soldiers to quickly beat France, March them back through Germany to the eastern front and defend against Russia.

What triggered the arms race between Britain and Germany.

The plan that Germany had to have the best navy in the world. This worried Britain who's navy was the current best and had a large empire that required a navy of that size. Because they felt threatened, Britain created a new style of warship and named it the HMS Dreadnought. The Dreadnought was far superior to the other warships and basically rendered them obsolete with better weaponry and armour. The Germans then copied the design and a race to make the most of them began.
