The Austrian government blame Serbia for the assassination and issues an ultimatum |

Russia is Serbia's ally and so begins to mobilise (prep) its army to help against Austria. |

Germany (as Austria's ally) declares war on Russia. Italy declares that is will remain neutral even though it is a member of the Triple Alliance with Austria and Germany. |

3 AUGUST 1914: Germany declared war on France |
As France is in the Triple Entente and Germany is in the Triple Alliance. |

4 AUGUST 1914: Germany invades Belgium |
As part of the Schlieffen plan (quickly cross Belgium to defeat France within a few weeks so that they can fight Russia on the Eastern Front) Germany invades Belgium not expecting much resistance . Later that day,Britain declares war on Germany. |

The American passenger ship The Luisatania is sunk by Germany even though America has not joined the war and many innocent people died. |

Germany starts using less submarines to keep America happy and prevent them from joining the war. |

FEBUARY 1917: America joins the war |
Germany begins using submarines again which upsets America and makes them join the war. (This is great for the Allied as they get fresh troops and resources) |

MARCH 1918: Germany and Russia make peace |
Russia is now controlled by the new Bolshevik government that doesn't wanna fight so Russia and Germnay make peace. This means that Germany can now travel through the Eastern Front. |

NOVEMBER 1918: Kaiser abdicates |
No one wanted to fight anymore, Germany was seriously short on troops and respurces which led to Germany military collapse. Kaiser Wilhelm was forced to abdicate. |

11 NOVEMBER 1918: Armastice |
An agreement to stop fighting was signed by France, Britain and Germany. |
