Surface filtration is

The filters used for surface filtration resemble very fine sieves. The solid particles are trapped on the surface of the filters as the wine flows throught it. The filters are very expensive and clog up extremly easily, so are generally used for wines that might still be present in wine, this is reffered to as sterile filtration.

Explain depth filtration

Fliters used in depth filtration are made from a thick layer of material. As the wine passes theought the filters the solid parts become trapped inside this meterial. These filters are able to handle very cloudy wines and can be used to remove the gross lees.
