Hydrocolloids
Made from pectin gelatine and carboxymethelcellulose.
For low exudate wounds only.
Used on necrotic areas in conjunction with a gel to rehydrate tissue.
Self adhering.
Change once a week or when leakage occurs.
Not to be used on infected wounds.
Not for use over exposed bone or tendon.
Films
Adhesive semipermeable film, waterproof and impermeable to bacteria.
For low to no exudate.
For use on superficial wounds or as a secondary dressing.
Not for use on infected wounds.
Island Dressings
A low absorbent dressing layer with backing of a faixation sheet or film.
IMPORTANT: These must be changed if they become wet or if strike through of exudate occurs as this becomes a portal for infection.
Non Adherant Dressings
Have minimal absorbency ability
Must be changed when strike through occurs.
Impregnated Gauzes
Impregnated with a topical ointment or wound product.
