Tanks, airplanes (1st used), trenches, and zeppelins (blimps). Poison gas was also used.

Why was America neutral?
We were divided among ethnic lines. Americans sided with Britain because of common cultures and languages, but immigrants sided with other countries (their home countries)
What was the impact of the war on America?
The economy boomed, propaganda began, submarine warfare started, and the U.S. could trade with anyone.
Explain the Lusitania.
The Lusitania was a British passenger ship that was hit by a German submarine on May 7, 1915. The U.S. was upset, but it didn't bring us into war.
What brought the U.S. into war?
Germany resuming submarine warfare, the Zimmermann Telegram, and the Russian Revolution; but not the Lusitania.

Who were the 369th regiment? What was their nickname?
The 369th regiment was an all black regiment (except for their officers). They received the Cross of War for bravery. Their nickname was the "Harlem Hell Fighters".
When is Armistice Day? What is it now?
Armistice Day was 11 am on November 11, 1918. It is now celebrated as Veteran's Day.
What are liberty bonds?
Lending money to the government to help finance the war
What did the women do while the men were in war?
Women took over the jobs of men that went to fight in the war, even though they got paid less. The positions didn't last after the war ended.
How were ethnic tensions at home?
There was much ethnic tension. Mexican-Americans and African-Americans made large migrations to the North. These migrations caused race riots.
