-They were conquered by the Myceneans from Mainland Greece in 1450

-Named after Mycenae>A cultural center city
-Culture was a group of city states, each ruled by a warrior king who were chosen by their ability in battle
-City state was small and centered around the king's palace, which was a defensible position that people could fall back into in case of attack
