Brahman
Was when the Hindus believed that everything in the universe was part of the unchanging, powerful spiritual force.
Hinduism
Has no single founder, and no single sacred texts. It grew out of the overlapping beliefs of the diverse groups.
Brahma

Vishnu

Were some of the Hindu teachings were recorded in sacred texts.
Bhagavad-Gita
Spells out many ethical ideas central to Hinduism.
Ahimsa
Means nonviolence.
Jainism
Was a new religion that grew out of Hindu traditions.
Guatama Buddha
Wanted to discover "the realm of life where there is neither suffering nor death.
Four Noble Truths
1.) All life is full or suffering, pain, and sorrow.
2.) The cause pf suffering is the desire for things that are really illusion, such as riches, power, and long life.
3.) The only cure for suffering is to overcome desire.
4.) The way to overcome desire is to follow the Eightfold Path.
Tripitaka
"Three baskets of wisdom" They were teachings that were put into a sacred text.
Theravada
One of the two major schools. the other was Mahayana.
Mahayana
was a sect that made Buddhism easier for ordinary people to follow.
