Climate change, food and water are among the region's many geographical issues. Sub-Saharan Africa is vulnerable to climate change because even slight variations in temperature, rainfall, and water greatly effect farming production, therefore effect food availability. With the region's political instability and poverty issues they do not have much resilience to the effects of the climate change.

Changes in food production in South Asia are among the region's geographical issues. Food supplies and incomes of wealthy farmers have increased. Meanwhile, new agricultural technology has displaced impoverished agricultural workers, forcing them to move and seek employment in the crowded cities and live in unsanitary conditions and must purchase their food.

Name and describe a geographical issue in East Asia

Overpopulation and gender roles are both geographical issues in this region particularly in China. Fear of overpopulation caused China to enforce a one-child-per-family policy in 1979. This policy has since caused a shortage of females due to the long-standing cultural preference for male children. Many parents will choose abortion or adoption if their baby is female or the female baby‘s will die during early infancy due to neglect or even infanticide.

There are a couple of reasons why China did not colonize an overseas empire. In the years of Zheng He's lavish voyages, the newly explored region's lacked the commodities that China was looking for. In addition their conflict with Mongolian nomads at that time required any extra resources available to go towards upgrading the Great Wall.

Describe the market reforms in China

China's leaders enacted market reforms in the 1980‘s that changed the country's economy in four ways. One was the responsibility system which returned agricultural decision making to the farm household level. Another was allowing newly established businesses to sell their produce and goods in competitive markets. Also regional specialization which encouraged specialization rather than self-sufficiency to take advantage of regional variations. As well as the Chinese government‘s allowance of direct foreign investment in export-oriented enterprises and the sale of foreign products in China.
