if you punch sth/sb. you hit them hard with your fist (= your tightly closed hand.) punch N.

stroke


you stroke sb's hair or an animal's fur (= animal hair) by moving your hand gently and slowly over it, often to show affection. You can also pat an animal (= touch it gently several times with your hand flat, usually to show affection).
