Totalitarianism

Centralized government that has absolute power.

War

Violent conflict between nations or parties.

Guerrilla

Person, usually acting in small, irregular groups, that helps at war by sabotaging the opposing party.

Holocaust

Great destruction/mass murder, usually through fire. An example is the mass murder of Jews in concentration camps in some European countries during WW2.

Genocide

The planned killing of a certain group because of their culture, ethnicity, religion, etc with the intent to eradicate them.

Dirty War

Action taken against civilians opposing the state, involving kidnapping, torture and murder, used by the government to oppress people.

Revolution

Movement, usually achieved through violence, in which people overthrow the government to replace it with another one.

Dictatorship

Type of government where one party/person has all the power.

Communism

Type of government and economic model where the state controls and owns everything, though it is said to be owned by the community.

Cold War

Rivalry and tension between two countries that barely avoids hostility. Usually referring to the one between the Soviet Union and the US after World War II.

Society

A community of people who interact with and depend on one another.

Civil Society

Elements (specially rights) characteristic of a democratic society.
