the practitioners of the sand society, found primarily in sierra leone, one of the two largest ethnic groups in sierra leone, agriculturalist. based on gender - women have very active roles in mende society, polygamy is practice, children are raised in communal settings . they migrated to Sierra Leone - no one really knows when the mende came to sierra leone.
