What happened during Prohibition?
1919: Prohibition began. During this time, the federal government banned the selling, manufacturing, and transport of alcohol for the purpose of consumption. This ban had a profound impact on the existing industry because people could not purchase alcohol legally and thus resorted to underground methods.

14 years later (1933), Prohibition ended. Only about half of the breweries that once existed actually reopened.
What is the Reinheitsgabot?
"The Purity Order"

1516 AD: The Reinheitsgabot was established as one of the oldest food purity laws. At this time, in order to make beer, the starch source must be barley, + hops & water.

1857 AD: YEAST was added as one of the ingredients required by the purity law.
What determines if a beer is going to be an Ale or Lager?
The way in which the beer is brewed determines if a beer is an Ale or Lager.

ALEs are (1) Top-Fermented and (2) brewed at warmer temperatures. They tend to be more complex and flavorful; Most ales are full-bodied and heavy in taste.

What is the story behind an IPA?
"India" Pale Ales originated in England. As beers were being transported by the East India Trading Co, more hops were added than usual so that they would act as a preservative during the long journey. The extra hops gave the beer a bitter/fruity aroma and taste as a result. People began to prefer this bitterness and thus IPAs became a very popular style.
What is a Double/Imperial IPA?
An IPA "on steroids." Has more hop character than a regular IPA, with a full-bodied, bold taste, and most importantly, it is very high in alcohol content (7-14% ABV range).

Describe a proper beer presentation.
With the proper glass in hand (cleaned and rinsed), beer should be poured at a 45-degree angle while gripping the tap handle at the base and pulling down fully to allow constant flow. As the glass fills, slowly turn it to an upright position, creating the perfect head to accommodate the glassware. Close the tap quickly and never touch the faucet to the glass or beer.

When presenting the beer to the guest, place it on a coaster with the glass decor facing the guest, verbally present it, and finally, use the first 3rd / last 3rd rule to ensure guest is completely satisfied.
