The Freikorps |
The opponents on the right liked the Kaiser's dictatorship style government. They liked Germany having a strong army and wanted Germany to expand its territory and have an empire. The Freikorps were a group of volunteer ex soldiers who were angry at the treaty and the new government. |
|
What happened |
In 1920 Dr Wolfgang Kapp led 5000 Freikorps into Berlin in a rebellion known as the Kapp Putsch. The army refused to fire on the Freikorps, this made it look like Eberts government was doomed. |

Results |
The German people, mainly industrial workers, saved Eberts government. They went on a general strike which stopped transport, power and water. Kapp realised he could not win after a few days and fled the country. He was eventually caught and died awaiting trial. The rest of the rebels went unpunished. |
