3 methods for entering live wells
WL- light operation with no circulation, cheap
Coiled tubing- can circulate, no rotation snubbing- same as drilling, can circulate, rotate and perform heavy operations. expensive |
3 subsea fields in Norway
Tordis- subsea separation unit
Tyrihans Ormen lange |
ways of entering subsea wells for intervention
Cat C: drilling and completion rig (today)
Cat B: heavy intervention and TTD rig (future) Cat A: RLWI riser less well intervention boat |
what is a RLWI vessel
it is a boat that can access a well with wireline services
Wellhead
provides suspention and pressure seal for casing/tubing strings
Tubing hanger
provides suspention for production tubing
XMT
an assembly of valves(used for production) mounted on top of wellhead, allows access to well.
How are DHSV set and replaced. two types
Tubing retrievable- is set with completion and have to retrieve the tubing in order to replace DHSV.
Wireline retrivable is set and retrieved by wireline |
Packer uses
packers purpose is to isolate area between prodstring and casing or to isolate different zones in the well
Packer types
permanent packer is run down by WL, coiled tubing or drillpie. and is detonated by some type of explosive. this type seals the best but have to be milled out to open. low cost
Retrievable packer is packer that can be retrieved, it does not seal as well as the perm packer. reusable |
How does gas lift work
Gas is injected into well to reduce the density/hydrostatic pressure in the well, thus decreases the pressure needed in the reservoir needed to produce the oil etc
Packer fluid
Is a fluid used over the packer and in between the production tubing and casing in order to reduce the pressure differential from the formation to inside of the casing and across the packer.
PBR Polished bore receptacle
used as an expantion joint for the packer
Niple
Used for landing plugs
Sliding sleeves
used for controlling which zones in the well to produce from
how to kill a producing well
ciculate in heavy fluid/mud in order to build a hydrostatic column with a pressure equal to the reservoir pressure. Then the reservoir will stop producing. circulation velocity has to be faster than the gas rise velocity.
Upper completion
Is from the bottom of the completion string and up
lower completion
is from the bottom of the completion string and down
