What is a society or social structure?

A structure or group that has the same bassi on values and beliefs (better to say social structure rather than society)

Is a notion of relationships rather than a collective group of individuals

Structure as Relation

Social Structures are made up of patterned relationships, it is how social life is organized

Status

The things you are. They are your positions in the social structure

Roles

A collection of beliefs values attitudes and norms that apply to whoever occupies a particular status, how you act out your status

Role conflict

When the demands and expectations of a role competes with the demands and expectations of another

Structure as Distribution

The statuses you occupy will determine what kind of life chances you have, and will set you up for varying levels of prestige or marginalization

The Stanford Prison Study - Main takeaway

Social structures don't exist unless we participate in them and the roles attached to the statuses we are given will inevitably come out in the social structure
