Minimise the orice of alcohol to 50p a unit from the current price of 43p a unit.

Doctors believe this could prevent 98,000 hospital admissions and 3,060 alocohol related deaths over a period of 10 years.
Government have promised to introduce a minimum price for a unit of alcohol and there is currently a home office cosultation to set this price.

It is likely to change to become 40p, 45p or 50p
The price of strong alcohol will change the most, for example a sainsbury's bottle of basic cider would go from £1.18 for 2 litres to £8.40 and sainsbury's basic Vodka would increase from £6.41 to £11.20 if the MUP was set at 40p.
Evidence shows that heavy drinkers and young drinkers are more effected by high alcohol prices than moderate drinkers.
It is generally agreed by resarchers that a meaningful MUP will bring significant health and social benefits. A 50p MUP will make a greater difference.
The Scottish government have settled on an MUP of 50p and to avoid cross border traiding England and Wales should do the same. Research suggests that over 10 years 42,500 crimes could be prevented by an MUP of 50p.
